Team Hoyt Denver's mission is to champion inclusion in running races and empower athletes of all abilities through the joy of racing, teamwork and the shared thrill of crossing the finish line.
What the role does.
Chair Fit Specialist Responsibilities
- Meet with new Rider Athletes and their families or caregivers to assess seating, positioning and support needs ahead of the athlete’s first race.
- Recommend the racing wheelchair model and size that best suits each athlete’s body, posture and postural support needs, in coordination with the Racing Chair Director.
- Specify the padding, cushioning, inserts and head or trunk supports each athlete needs to ride comfortably over a full race distance.
- Confirm that harnesses, straps, footrests and seat positioning are correctly adjusted for each athlete, so they are secure without pressure points or restricted movement.
- Record each Rider Athlete’s fit specifications — chair model, seat and strap settings, padding and support requirements — in their THD Portal record so any Racing Chair Manager can reproduce the setup at any race.
- Reassess fit at least once a year, and any time an athlete grows, changes equipment or a family reports discomfort.
- Show families and Runner Athletes how to seat and secure their Rider Athlete correctly, including what to check before the start of a race.
- Follow up with Rider Athletes and families after races to learn how the chair felt on the course, and adjust the fit specification when something needs to change.
- Consult with an athlete’s physical or occupational therapist or seating clinician, as appropriate, when positioning needs are complex.
- Keep a supply of padding, cushions, inserts and strapping with the trailer and let the Racing Chair Director know when items need replacing.
- Attend a minimum of 4 Team Hoyt Denver races per year.
